I think a lot of institutions strive for this, but often there are outliers who don't make it a priority. Same with disciplines - some really push these ideas, while others do not :(

These events transpired while algorithms and echo chambers may have ensured that individuals did not read the same information as their next door neighbor

Micro-targeting is the way of the future for advertising anything - how do we push back?

One of the primary responsibilities of academics is to help create an informed, knowledgeable citizenry

We need this to be at the front of more highered institutions!

we are all students of digital and media literacy

This reminds me of Rilke's idea that we should aspire to be perptual beginners.

Great question on the blind review bit. Things could go in a bunch of different ways I'd guess. In some disciplines the blind review is essential for due diligence, while in others not as important. Maybe its also about what types of work are being done. When I think about this kind of thing, I kind of think in reverse and wonder what if we had started with open and public scholarship (which I guess if we go back far enough, perhaps we did?) and then tried to convince people to move to closed journals. How different would our disciplines look then?

It is weird that there is so little support in the way in pedagogy unless you're in Education programs. And even some of them focus more on procedure/administration etc over actually diving into pedagogy. Its great that you want to keep reaching to become a better teacher though :)

start asking what Twitter has done to academics

This is just as relevant now, maybe even more so than before, given the frailty of our current climate.

Hacking the Attention Economy – Data & Society: Points

Institutions and legal instruments designed to stop abuse are finding themselves ill-equipped to function in light of networked dynamics.

Reading this right after the PE's first press conference - horrifying how he is gaslighting the entire country

Sources: Trump to pick ExxonMobil CEO Tillerson as secretary of state

Drumpf and Tillerson possess similar dealmaking business backgrounds and similar views of the world, sources said, and there was a level of comfort that Drumpf hadn't found with anyone else.

How scary is that?

This is what happens when Donald Trump attacks a private citizen on Twitter

He knows the consequences

If he really knew the consequences, he would NOT call people out because of how much power his tweets yield. This also proves how little concern PEOTUS has for "common" people.

I believe that education is a process of offering people tools – conceptual as well as technical – to understand their identities and possibilities and those of others within a structural framework that points to various paths of possible agency.

Was thinking the other day about Bonnie's keynote at DigPedCairo - during the Q&A phase she had an off hand remark, something like - "perhaps the most important digital literacy is how one signals in a network". This is a continuation, I believe, of that idea. How we signal. How we read signals. What signals we send and/or receive.
